Abstract

Objective To look into the relation between genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection and infertility. Methods Chlamydia trachomatis from sperm and cervical mucus was detected by PCR method in 84 infertile couples. The results, together with those from semen routine and immunologic tests, were processed for statistical analyses. Results The positivity of genital Chlamydia trachomatis was positively correlated to infertility, the decrease in number of sperm and the presence of antisperm antibody. Conclusion The Chlamydia trachomatis infection of the male genital tract may interfere with spermatogenesis and/or spermioteleosis to cause male infertility. The relationship between Chlamydia trachomatis infection and antisperm antibody may also be of certain significance to infertility.
