Abstract
To model involute gears accurately, a formula for calculating the involute curve of gear profile is presented. Based on AutoCAD ActiveX Automation and Visual Basic, auto-generation of gear profile is realized through B-spline fitting. On the basis of gear profile, three-dimensional model of involute gear can be established using solid modeling functions of AutoCAD. This approach can improve modeling precision and efficiency of producing involute gear, and provide necessary condition for finite element method analysis of involute gear.
