Abstract

Multicast provides an approach which could enable hosts to communicate with each other not only from one site, but also from many sites to many more ones. The applications such as Remote Conference, mutual Simulation,Distribution Information System,Multi-Gaming propose their requirements on Multicast techniques. Currently, transactions are implemented on network layer or application layer in OSI model are chief two methods of multicast transaction. Research of IP multicast is proceeding a little earlier, however, our research find out that there are many issues observed in network layer multicast. Based on the characteristics and application of internet, at the bases of techniques of IP-multicast, Overlay Network and P2P, it develops the technique of application layer multicast, otherwise, application layer multicast is not perfect at all. In this paper, we summarize the merits and flaws of multicast techniques on network layer and application layer, further we propose our architecture that combines the advantages of the previous two approaches. Our objective is to secure the complementary effects.
