The Theory and Practice of Urban Ecological Preserve

The study of urban ecology is the theoretical basis of the practice of urban ecological civilization. This paper analyzed the origin of the concept of urban ecological preserve, the evolution of the international urban natural space design thoughts and the research progress of China's urban ecological preserve, as well as the ecological feedback mechanism of urban ecological preserve. It proposed that to establish ecological preserves in urban areas will bring more ecological service and functions than the nature preserves in countryside. With a case study of urban ecological conservation and planning design practice in Shenzhen and Macao as example, it discussed how to realize the urban ecology preserve from the perspective of urban complex ecosystem. It also proposed to develop planning and design for urban eco-system and to develop habit design for the multi-purpose and multi-species requirements for the urban ecological preserve, which would help to play positive and negative feedback to ensure the relative stability of urban ecosystem. In addition, it also suggested that appropriate science and recreation activities should be promoted within the scope of ecological capacity and a long-term ecological background tracking survey system should be established, which would lay the foundation for the construction of urban ecological civilization.
