Abstract

The earth affected by varied kinds of mechanical mechanism may be deformed, and it in turn induces the change of gravitational potential, namely, deformable accessional potential or Eulerian increments of gravitational potential. For a deformable earth characterized by a spherically symmetric reference configuration, based on the theory of scalar and vector spherical harmonic functions, this paper makes the spherical harmonic expansion of the incremental Eulerian gravitational potential due to dilatation multipoles, mass transport multipoles and mass condensation multipoles on the reference surface of the body, and explicates some concepts on variation of gravity. This work can provide reference and gist for theoretical research on change in space-time of the high-resolution gravitational field.
