Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the clinical application of low-dose thin-reconstruction of volumetric data with a high-resolution CT algorithm in lung diseases.Methods:Fifty patients who had been diagnosed with lung diseases underwent low-dose MSCT and HRCT scans and volumetric HRCT reconstructions.Conventional HRCT scans and volumetric HRCT images were rated for image quality and diagnostic value in lung diseases.Results:No difference was found in the identification of CT findings of lung diseases between conventional HRCT scans and volumetric HRCT images,P=0.188.Score values of conventional HRCT and volumetric HRCT techniques were equal nearly in the evaluation of CT findings with consolidation of lung,graticule,honeycomb,emphysema and bullae.Low-dose MSCT scan reduced 80% radiation dose and shortened the examination time.Conclusion:The present investigation confirms that low-dose volumetric HRCT images allow a diagnostic approach to lung diseases as precise as that provided with conventional HRCT scans.But low-dose volumetric HRCT reduced 80% radiation dose and shortened the examination time.It is useful especially for the patients who are looked over repeatedly.
