Abstract

Aim:To investigate the relationship between different obesity indices and blood pressure and hypertension among rural residents in Henan province. Methods:Data of 20 152 participants aged ≥18 years in a rural district of Henan in 2007 to 2008 were collected and analyzed. Results:The systolic pressure(SBP),diastolic pressure(DBP),pulse pressure(PP) and the prevalence of hypertension increased along with BMI and WHtR,and the above parameters in people with central obesity were higher than the normal people(P0.001).All the indices were positively correlated with SBP,DBP and PP(P0.001).Compared with the BMI18.5 kg·m-2 group, the odds ratios of 18.5 kg·m-2~,24.0 kg·m-2~,and ≥28.0 kg·m-2 groups for hypertension were 1.6(95%CI:1.2~2.0),2.2(95%CI:1.7~2.9),and 3.6(95%CI:2.7~4.8).Compared with the non-obesity group, the odds ratios of central obesity for hypertension was 1.3(95%CI:1.1~1.4).Compared with the WHtR0.47 group, the odds ratios of 0.47~,0.52~ and ≥0.57 groups for hypertension were 1.4(95%CI:1.3~1.6),1.6(95%CI:1.3~1.8),and 2.0(95%CI:1.7~2.4),P0.001.Conclusion:The obesity indices are positively correlated with blood pressure,PP,and the prevalence of hypertension among rural residents in Henan province;general obesity and central obesity should be controlled in order to prevent and treat hypertension.
