Analysis of Six Meridians Names

Objective:This paper aims to probe into the naming of the six meridians(Taiyin,Shaoyin,Jueyin,Taiyang,Shaoyang,Yangming)based on profound analysis of the Yin-Yang Theory and other correlated theories,and helps to better understand the meanings of the six meridians.Methods:This paper discusses and discloses the original meanings of the naming of the six meridians with the knowledge and from the point of view of ancient understanding.It holds that the naming originated from ancient observation of the nature,especially correlated with such concepts as Liangyi(Yin and Yang),Sixiang(Tai Yin,Shao Yin,Tai Yang,Shao Yang).Conclusion:An extra pair of names was added to the Sixiang in Huangdi's Internal Classics.In this book,the birth place of Tai Yang(the Sun,Yang)and Shao Yang(the Moon,Yin) were combined ingeniously into Yang Ming.Since Tai Yin and Shao Yin were listed already in the three Yin meridians,Jue Yin was generated by combining the two Chinese characters Jue and Yin into one phrase,the former character means lack or not in existence and pronounced Jue,and the latter means and pronounced Yin.
