Abstract

Operating effects of powered activated carbon combined with ultrafiltration was investigated, based on the status with low removal rate to organic matters and serious pollution of ultrafiltration membrane.Combined pilot-scale treatment process of powered activated carbon and ultrafiltration(PAC-UF) was applied to treat micro-polluted raw water. The removal effects of turbidity and organics on PAC-UF combined process and UF process were compared. The effects on pollutant removal and UF operation performance were studied with different PAC dosages. The results show that the organics removal efficiency of UF process combined with PAC is obviously improved. The average removal rate of CODMn and UV254 are both above 56%,and higher with the PAC dosage increased. The turbidity removal rate of PAC-UF process is very high. The effluent turbidity of PAC-UF process is higher slightly than that of UF process, and is higher with the PAC dosage increased, but is below 0.20NTU totally.Membrane pollution could be lessened effectively by PAC addition. The increase of transmembrane pressure is slower down with PAC dosage increased. But it is existed the optimum PAC dosage. The membrane pollution is aggravated by over-dosaged PAC.The PAC dosage of 10 g/L is the optimum value in the study.
