Abstract
Differentiating and identifying the type of port is the basis of the port layout and regional planning.Traditional port classification has not been regarded as the most appropriate interpretation for port.Combining port features,the paper made out a new classification for port of China,which was divided into 11 types.It described the common characteristics of the existing international shipping center,analyzed their indicators,then drew what type Shanghai port should be classified to.Finally,it discussed the issue that Shanghai port is truly an international port.
