Investigation and analysis of 587 cases of central venous catheter-related infection.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To analyze the risk factors of central venous catheter-related infections(CVC-RI),to provide references for better clinical control of CVC-RI.METHODS Bacterial culture of the catheter tips were done to 587 patients receiving central venous catheterization from Jan 2004 to Dec 2009 and the results were analyzed.RESULTS The average infection rate of CVC-RI was 14.1% in the 587 patients.Gram-positive cocci accounted for 47%.Gram-negative bacilli 38.6% and fungus 6.4%.The infection rates of subclavian vein,basilic vein,jugular vein,femoral vein catheter-related were 7.8%,8.5%,18.4% and 28.9%,respectively.Catheter time ≤ 7 days,8-14 days,≥15 days of catheter-related infection rates were 6.9%,7.5% and 38.9%,respectively.CONCLUSION Trying select the subclavian vein and basilic vein for central venous catheter,standardizing the puncture techniques,strict catheter care and reducing the retention time can reduce the rate of catheter-related infections.
