Abstract

According to the observed field data of hydrology and sediment in Yalu River estuary, mathematical models with multiple nested grids of tidal current and sediment in estuary had been set up by using of MIKE 21 FM module, covering the area from Jiangqiao bridge in Dandong city to 6~7 m isobath. And verification and validation were carried out on the field measured data of 2 tidal stations and 15 stations of current velocity, direction and sediment concentration. Then the tidal current field and suspended sediment field were numerically simulated. The results show that: the ebb velocity is usually greater than the flood current velocity. The maximum mean velocity is present to the downstream part of Langtou Port and Douliupu channel.Due to the broadened water surface in the estuary, the ebb velocity tends to decrease.Sediment concentration shows the trend of increase along the channel, and the maximum sediment concentration is present to Douliupu area, which is the upriver of braided channel.
