Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of surgical treatment of large goiter. Methods The clinical data of 163 cases of large goiter patients were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the patients had surgical treatment,of whom 138 patients underwent most resection of Futaba thyroid,22 patients underwent complete resection of suffered thyroid lobe plus isthmus,3 patients underwent total resection of one side thyroid lobe plus isthmus, contralateral subtotal resection combined with ipsilateral cervical lymph node dissection. After surgery,4 patients had recurrent laryngeal nerve injury,6 patients had parathyroid injury,11 patients had hypothyroidism who needed to be treated long-term with left thyroid tablets. No operative deaths occurred. Conclusions As surgery is an effective means of treatment of large goiter, appropriate surgical options can reduce complications and improve efficacy.
