Abstract

This paper dealt with the color reaction of 1(2,6dibromo4nitrophenyl)3(4nitrophenyl)triazene (DBNPNPT) with cethyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB) and cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB).In NaOH medium, DBNPNPT reacts with quarternary ammonium cationic surfactant(CTMAB,CPB) to form purplered complex with the molar ratio of 1∶2.The molar absorptivities of CTMAB and CPB are 3.67×10\+4 and 4.11×10\+4 L·mol\+\{-1\}·cm\+\{-1\} by using dualwavelength spectrophotometry,Beer′s law is obeyed in the range of 0~13.85 mg/L for CTMAB, 0~16.09 mg/L for CPB.The method has been applied to the direct determination of cationic surfactant in water with satisfactory results.
