Clinical observation of the effects of ondansetron on preventing and treating the digesting tract symptoms caused by chemotherapy

Objective To observe the effects of ondansetron on prevention and treatment of the nausea, vomiting and poor appetite that may occur after anticancer medicines (chemotherapy). Methods Total 85 patients were divided into group A in which 50 patients without injection of ondansetron before chemotherapy and group B in which 35 patients with injection of ondansetron by dosing 8mg bid or more daily before and after chemotherapy. Results Occurring rate of the nausea was 94% in group A and 74% in group B with significant difference. Occurring rate of the vomiting was 70% in group A and 46% in group B with high significant difference. Occurring rate of the poor appetite was 96% in group A and 63% in group B with high significant difference. Conclusion Ondansetron may reduce the side effects of chemotherapy on the digesting tract, which should be important to strengthen surgery result and complete chemotherapy successfully .
