Effect of Hyperbaric Oxygen on the Prognosis of Intracranial Meningiomas

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) on the prognosis of intracranial meningiomas.Methods: In 152 cases subject to surgical treatment,56 cases received HBO treatment after surgery(HBO-treated group),and the remaining 96 patients were not subjected to HBO treatment(control group).Results:(1) The recurrent rate and mortality in HBO-treated group were 21.43% and 5.36% respectively,and those in control group 18.8% and 8.3% respectively.The recurrent rate was 62.5% in ≤30 years old group not subject to HBO treatment,and 7.40% in 41-50 years old group(P0.05).The recurrence was associated with pathological types of meningiomas.The more tumor size,the higher the recurrent rate,but there was no significant difference.Conclusion: HBO was not a factor to influence the prognosis of intracranial meningiomas.
