Abstract

Objective:To detect the role and the significance of Survivin on angiogenesis in oral squamous cell carcinoma through observing the relationship between the expression of Survivin and microvessel density in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Method:Expression of Survivin and CD 34 in 42 cases of oral squamous cell cacinoma(14 cases with lymph node metastasis) and 10 cases of normal oral mucosa were detected by immunohistochemistry. MVD was also be assessed.Result:Survivin were detected in 34(80.95%) of oral squamous cell cacinoma, no expression of Survivin in normal tissue were detected. The MVD were higher in oral squamous cell carcinoma than in normal tissues and were related to histological grade as well as neck lymph node metastasis(P0.05). The MVD were significantly higher in Survivin-positive oral squamous cell carcinoma than in Survivin-negative oral squamous cell carcinoma (P0.05),and positively correlated with the expression degree of Survivin. Conclusion:Overexpression of Survivin in oral squamous cell cacinoma may play an important role in the development of oral squamous cell cacinoma. It is closely correlated with the tumor's lymph node metastasis and angiogenesis.
