Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of Yiqi Dingxuan decoction combined with buflomedil hydrochloride in elderly patients with single vertigo( qi deficiency and blood stasis type) caused by posterior circulation ischemia( PCI) and to investigate the action mechanism of Yiqi Dingxuan decoction. Methods: Ninety elderly patients with single vertigo caused by PCI who met the inclusion criteria were randomly and equally divided into treatment group( treated with Yiqi Dingxuan decoction and buflomedil hydrochloride),first control group( treated with Qiangli Dingxuan tablets and buflomedil hydrochloride),and second control group( treated with placebo and buflomedil hydrochloride). The course of treatment was 2 weeks. The changes in syndrome score, blood flow velocity of the vertebrobasilar artery, and hemorheology were evaluated. Results: After treatment, all groups showed improvements in syndrome score, blood flow velocity of the vertebrobasilar artery, and hemorheology, and the treatment group had significantly more improvements in all indices than the first and second control groups( P 0. 01). Conclusion: Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy combines the advantages of two medicines in elderly patients with single vertigo caused by PCI. Qi-tonifying,blood-activating,and phlegm-eliminating prescription has better efficacy in treating those patients with qi deficiency and blood stasis.
