Abstract
Objective: to evaluate the value of prenatal screening and diagnosis of Down syndrome(DS) and neural tube defect(NTD) in predicting fetal development abnormalities and reducing birth defects. Methods: The level of AFP and free beta-HCG in serum were detected by using enzyme-linked immunoassay. The risk coefficient was calculated by using professional computer software.Analyze karyotype in amnitioc fluid or cord blood was performed in DS high-risk pregnant women.Ultrasonography were performed in NTD high risk cases and DS low risk cases. Results: In 33 434 pregnant women,2 034 cases(6.09%) was high-risk cases of DS.The positive rate of screening for DS in pregnant women with reproductive age was obviously higher than that with advanced maternal age(P 0.05).According to further diagnosis, there was 16 cases of 1 183 high risk pregnant women carrying a fetus with DS.In pregnant women with reproductive age and with advanced maternal age, there were 14 cases and 3 cases of DS were found,4 cases and one case of DS was low risk, respectively. There was 8 cases of 335 high risk pregnant women carrying a fetus with NTD.Conclusion: Second trimester prenatal screening is the effective method to predict fetal development. The high-risk pregnant women should be carried on the prenatal diagnosis. In order to provide the birth of children with DS,the significance is important to perform ultrasonic screening in the high risk women without performed prenatal diagnosis or low risk women.
