Abstract

Objective:To study age-related changes of the malondialdehyde contents of the saliva and the serum in healthy adults.Methods:120 healthy adults were divided into four groups:20-39 years, 40-59 years, 60-79 years and 80 years and over. The MDA contents of the saliva and the serum in healthy adults were determined using MDA kit.Results:(1)The malondialdehyde contents of the saliva and serum in 20-39 years were significantly lower than that in 60-79 years and 80 years and over groups(p0.05).20-39 years and 40-59 years groups were not significantly different(p0.05).(2) There is distinguished dependability in serum and saliva(r=0.79, p0.05).Conclusion:(1)The malondialdehyde contents of the serum and the saliva of healthy adults decrease with aging.(2)The detection of the saliva can reflect that of the serum.
