Abstract

Objective To assess the effect and selection of the internal fixation for cervical fracture and dislocation with cervical spinal cord injury. Methods 34 patients with cervical injury were treated with internal fixation using 6 different devices within 1~5 days after the injury. Results With 3 to 36 months follow-up, all 34 patients had at least 1 grade improvement according to the ASIA evaluation system. There were no complications relating to these fixations, and function of the spinal cord significantly improved. Conclusion Effective and opportune rigid stable fixation of the injured cervical region can significantly improve the patients' cervical spinal cord function, and the selection of the fixation device should be adopted according to the types of the fracture and dislocation.
