Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical significance of cytogenetic study and FISH in the diagnosis of APL.Methods G binding technique for the presence of t (15; 17) translocation and FISH for PML-PARα fusion genes were used. Results Of the 38 patients diagnosed finally as APL, 36 patients(92.1%) were diagnosed as APL based on morphologic feature, 36 patients (92.1%) had clonal t (15; 17) change in cytogenetic study and 38(100%) patients had the PML-RARα fusion gene detected by FISH study. Conclusion Both cytogenetic study and FISH study for t(15;17)associated PML-RARα fusion gene are reliable in APL diagnosis, and especially, FISH study is more sensitive than cytogenetic study.
