Abstract
The paper talks about the modernization of rhetoric through the contribution of professor Zong Tinghu and professor Li Jinling. They have defined rhetoric as a branch of speech linguistic as well as a kind of borderline discipline; they have studied the relation between form and content, from which stem the scope of rhetoric research and the highest principle of rhetoric; they have studied Chinese rhetoric history and developed rhetoric theory systematically.
