Abstract
Objective To assess the treatment method and outcome of mini-implants as anchorage for protraction of mandibular second molars into first molar extraction sites. Methods Five patients with missing or extracted mandibular first molars were treated by using mini-implants as anchorage for mesial movement of the mandibular second molar. Results Class I canine and molar,normal anterior overbite and overjet,good occlusion,normal function,and a roots parallel of the patients were achieved. The amounts of protraction for the second molars were 11. 7 mm. Mean treatment period was 26. 1 months( 18. 5 ~ 31. 0 months). Conclusions Closure of the mandibular first molar extraction spaces was effective with the mesial movement of the second molars by using mini-implants between the roots of the first and second bicuspids.
