Abstract

Objective:To observe the correlation between pterygium size and corneal astigmatism and study the opportunity and necessity of operation.Methods:63eyes with primary pterygium were evaluated according to measurement of visual acuity, diopter, corneal curvature and pterygium size, among them preoperative data of51eyes were compared with those of the postoperative finding. Results:Various degrees of astigˉmatismwere determined in58eyes.The astigmatismwas associated with the lenghth of pterygium into the cornea, with regular astigmatism as the main type. Conclusion:The operation of pterygium can obviously improve the status of corneal astigmatism.Once the pterygium extends2.5~3.0mm into the cornea,it is the crucial time to perform the operation.
