Abstract

Objective To study the changes of the centric threshold perimetry in myopia. Methods Fifty-three cases(105 eyes) of myopia with no posterior polar retinal changes under ophthalmoscopic examination were divided into groups based on their degree. The centric threshold perimetry of all eyes were tested by OCTOPUS 101 and compared. Results Mean sensitivity(MS),mean defect(MD) and loss variance(LV) of myopia were abnormal. That degree of myopia was significantly negatively correlated with MS and visual acuity, while was positively correlated with MD and was not correlated with LV.Fifty-four eyes(51.43%) showed field abnormalities and the rate of the abnormality increased with the degree of myopia. The difference was significant statistically(P0.01).The visual field abnormality of myopia was central relative scotoma and changes similar to glaucomatous field defects. Conclusion The impairment of central visual field exists in myopia, especially is common in middle and high degree myopia.Such impairment can occur in myopia with no posterior polar retinal changes under ophthalmoscopic examination. It is suggested that making centric threshold perimetry test as regular in myopia as in glaucoma. It is helpful in early diagnosis and treatment of myopia.
