Abstract
The effects of prey density(0.1,0.3,1.0,3.0 and 10.0 preys per millilitre) on growth and survival in different body sizes(0.68 cm,1.50 cm,3.20 cm) of larval hybrid snakehead were investigated.Growth of three sizes of larvae snakehead increased with prey density from 0.1 to 1.0 prey per millilitre.The specific growth rate(SGR) was the highest at 1 prey per millilitre.When prey density was higher than 1 prey per millilitre,SGR of size-Ⅰ larvae decreased while no significant changes observed in those of size-Ⅱand size-Ⅲ.Prey densities did not significantly affect survival rates,and survival rates were high in different size group.Body size was insensitive to prey density.The best prey density was 1 prey per millilitre in all treatments.
