Abstract
Based on the panel data on China's 31 industrial sectors during the period from 1998 to 2004,this paper firstly utilizes hierarchical clustering method to divide the China's 31 industrial sectors into high energy intensity industries sectors and low sectors on the basis of average annual energy intensity,and then empirically considers the factors that impact industrial energy consumption intensity from the China's 31 industrial sectors and high energy-consuming sectors and low energy-consuming sectors. The results show that increases in energy price contribute to a significant decline in low energy consumption sectors,especially for high energy-consuming sectors. With a rise in the proportion of FDI in industries sectors,industrial energy consumption intensity increases,in particular for high energy consuming sectors. Changs in import and export product composition don't significantly affect industrial energy consumption intensity. And changes in industry structure among industrial sectors have a significant negative influence on energy consumption intensity in China's 31 industrial sectors and low energy-consuming sectors,but have no significant impact on energy-consuming sectors. The enhancement of RD investment intensity leads to a rise in energy consumption intensity,especially for high energy-consuming sectors.
