Abstract

In order to study the infection of coccidiosis in calves in dairy farms in northern Xinjiang,an investigation has been carried out on the Holstein calves less than one year old in six large-scale dairy farms in Changji,Shihezi and Kuitun. The results showed that the total rate of coccidia infection reached 35.55%.The average infection rate of the calves under six months old was 42.25%,and that of the 7~12-month-old calves was 21.74%.Five kinds of Eimeria coccidians, including Eimeria zurnii,Eimeria bovi,Eimeria ellipsoidall,Eimeria cylindrica and Eimeria subspherica, were identified in the investigation.Among them,Eimeria zurnii and Eimeria ellipsoidal were the dominant species. The survey provided epidemiological information for the prevention and control of coccidiosis in calves in northern Xinjiang.
