Abstract

The soil and tobacco leaf samples were collected from tobacco-planting counties in Baise city of Guangxi, and the contents and characteristics of magnesium(Mg) in tobacco-planting soils and tobacco leaves were studied to provide references for balancing the fertilization and the development of high-quality and special tobacco leaves. The results showed that the exchangeable magnesium contents in tobacco-planting soils were relatively low with an average of 0.84 cmol/kg.The magnesium contents of more than 50% soil samples from all tobacco-planting counties were found in the range of 0.5-1.0 cmol/kg.The magnesium content in tobacco leaves was found to be low with an average of 0.17% and 30% degree of variation, and that collected from most of the tobacco-planting counties was found to be deficient. The magnesium content of 80% tobacco leaf samples collected from Jingxi,Debao,Lingyun,Xilin county was deficient. Therefore, applying magnesium-containing fertilizers must be recommended for tobacco growing areas of Baise city to improve the tobacco yield and quality.
