Abstract

In this paper the principle of a magnetorheological(MR) damper is analyzed. The viscosity model is used to describe viscous characteristics of the MR fluids subject to an applied magnetic field. The equation for the damping force is derived to provide the theoretical foundation in the design of the damper. The results show that with the increase of the applied magnetic field the apparent viscosity of MR fluid and the force is increased.
