Abstract
Two series solid complexes of europium and terbium with biphenyl 4-carboxylic acid have been synthesized and characterized in this article.Their elemental analysis and TG-DTA studies indicate that the complexes have the composition of EuL3·3H2O,Eu0.5La0.5 L 3·3H2O,Eu0.5Y0.5 L 3·3H2O;Tb L3·2H2O,Tb0.5La0.5 L 3·2H2O and Tb0.5Y0.5 L3·3H2O.Their IR spectra,UV,1HNMR and molar conductivities have heen studied. The results indicate that biphenyl 4-carboxylic acid is bounded with RE3+.The fluorescence spectra of the rare earth complexes show that the fluorescent intensity of a series of europium complexes is higher than that of a series of terbium complexes. The fluorescent intensity of heteronuclear europium complexes is higher than that of homonuclear europium complexes.
