Abstract
Objective: To explore the law of brainstem auditory evoked potentials(BAEP) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma before and after radiotherapy for understanding the damage of brainstem or auditory pathways.Methods: Peak latency(PL) of Ⅰ,Ⅲ,Ⅴ and Interpeak latency(IPL) of Ⅰ~Ⅲ,Ⅲ~Ⅴ,Ⅰ~Ⅴ of BAEP of 19 cases(38 side ears) with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were checked before radiotherapy and 8 weeks after radiotherapy.Results: The abnormal rates of BAEP were 42.1%(8/19) and 57.9%(11/19) respectively.PL and IPL of all waves were prolonged after radiotherapy comparing with the radiotherapy ahead.ⅢPL andⅠ~ⅢIPL displayed significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion: The levels of BAEP can disclose the damage of brainstem or auditory pathways,which can help to diagnose and treat the neurological damage in the early period.
