Abstract

The fracture of the valve spring was examined by chemical composition testing, metallography, hardeness and SEM.The results showed that fatigue cracks on the local surface of spring were caused by metallurgical defects in raw materials.Propagation of the cracks resulted in early fatigue fracture of the spring eventually.
