Abstract

Objective: To study the gene expression changes of neuronal nitric oxide sythase (nNOS) in injured spinal cord tissue. Methods: A compression injured model of rat spinal cord was estabilished and gene expression level of nNOS was measured by revese transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) Results: Expression of nNOS mRNA was seen in non injured spinal cord tissue and was quickly upregulated after injury, reaching the maximum at 6 hours after injury. Conclusion: nNOS may play a negative role in the secondary spinal cord injury.
