AIDS knowledge and sexual behavior status of female sex workers in Xinjiang

Objective To understand the AIDS knowledge,attitude and behavior of the female sex workers in Xinjiang,and to comprehensively analyze the existing problems of the AIDS high-risk group,which provide a scientific basis for the intervention,prevention and control of the prevalence of AIDS.Methods Judgmental sampling was applied to questionnaire survey female sex workers in different regions,different service establishments of four areas including Xinjiang Urumqi,Yining,Kashi,Hami districts.Results The education background of the Xinjiang female sex workers was low,the age was younger,and the awareness rate of the AIDS related knowledge was 76.35%,which showed differences in areas but nationalities.The rate of people holding positive attitude towards AIDS patients was 75.76%.28.01% female sex workers had more sexual partners,and the rate of using condom every time was 63.93%.Among those sex workers,the utilization of condom in national minority was lower than Han nationality,and the utilization of condom in four regions had differences;the satisfaction level of prevention of HIV/AIDS service among sex workers was high in 75.06%.Conclusion In order to prevent AIDS,we should provide systematical prevention of HIV/AIDS service in different areas and make best use of the mass media to broadcast the basic knowledge of AIDS,and also should promote condom using,which will enhance the recognition of prevention AIDS by using condom,and to change the unsafe sexual behaviors.
