Abstract

It is of great significance to obtain the towing resistance of offshore oil platforms in practical application because the offshore platforms are usually towed to the work location.After years of development,CFD has been used to calculate the practical ship resistance and optimize the hull line and so on.CFD are rarely used to calculate the towing resistance of offshore oil platforms because of the complex structures.Two methods are adopted here to calculate the towing resistance of a Truss Spar platform: experiment and numerical simulation.We get satisfactory results from the comparison of the results for towing resistance obtained by experiments and by CFD simulations.Additional analysis has been conducted to investigate the changes of flow fields between the heave plates of the Truss Spar platform.
