Abstract
Human umbilical cord mesenchymal cells isolated from the Wharton′s jelly of the umbilical cord,which possess potential of renewable,low risk of rejection and broad developmental.Human umbilical cord mesenchymal cells not only can be differentiated into islet-like cells under culture conditions of islet cell growth in vivo or in vitro,but also can secrete insulin to decrease blood glucose.Therefore,human mesenchymal stem cells in Wharton′s Jelly of the umbilical cord have the potential to become an excellent candidate in β-cell replacement therapy of diabetes.
