Relation of Chinese Literature with World Literature: Principles in Compiling History of World Literature

This paper inquires into a set of issues that have long puzzled the scholars in the academic circle. (i) Should Chinese literature be included in historical works of world literature? (ii) And if yes, what kind of status the former should have in the latter? The author of the present paper has found that actually Chinese scholars have already supplied answers of value for these questions. In other words, Chinese scholars emphasize the dualistic opposition of eastern and western literature and the contributions Chinese literature has made to world literature. And the contributions are embodied in the three valuable models - Class Theory, Human Nature Theory and Cosmopolitism, from the perspective of the dynamic theory of the history of world literature. Subsequently, some other related issues are also discussed.
