Abstract

Objective To evalute the effect of simultaneous transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBt) and benign prostatic hyperplasia(TURP) for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).Method The patients were divided into two groups: 25 cases (group A) receiving transurethral bladder tumor resection, and 20 cases (group B) receiving both transurethral prostate resection and transurethral bladder tumor resection at the same operation. The recurrence and progression rate, relapse time, the recurrence rate in the bladder neck and prostatic urethra were compared between two groups. Results The patients were followed up for 12-48 months (mean 25.4). No statistically significant differences were found between group A and group B in terms of follow-up time, recurrence, progression, recurrence in the prostatic urethra and/or bladder neck, and relapse time (P0.05).Conclusion Simultaneous TURBt and TURP for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder with BPH is feasible, and the recurrence is not raised as compared with transurethral bladder tumor resection alone for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder.
