Abstract
Names are closely related with a country's culture.This paper analyzes the different origins of the surnames between Chinese and English and their name formation as well as their similarities from cultural aspects,reveals the hidden histories and cultures in names can help to understand the differences between Chinese and western cultures and to enhance their communication.
