A Rhetoric Interpretation of Lu Xun’s AQ

Abstract

By employing new rhetoric narrative theory we anatomize AQ into AQ’s story, “my” story and Lu Xun’s story to reveal the fiction's narrative charm. Adopting skillful narrative strategies, AQ not only accomplishes criticizing the protagonist, but also puts the “senseless spectators” in both early Republic of China and the May 4th period to a interrogated place. This reinterpretation stresses that there are multi-layer critical spaces in the text.
