Abstract
Objective To explore the role of interleukin 12(IL 12), interleukin 18(IL 18) and interferon gamma(IFN γ)in lupus nephritis and investigate the relationship among these cytokines in the autoimmune disease Methods The plasma levels of IL 12, IL 18 and IFN γ in 16 patients with lupus nephritis and 10 normal volunteers were measured by enzyme linked immunoasordent assay (ELISA) The relationship among these three cytokines and the relationship between the cytokines and systemic lupus erythematosus active parameters were also analyzed Results The plasma levels of IL 12, IL 18 and IFN γ in patients with LN were increased significantly when compared to those in normal controls(IFN γ:1.76±2.05 vs 0.07±0.25, P 0 05;IL 12:182.6±131.8 vs 21.2±10.3, P 0 001;IL 18:844.5±334.5 vs 217 0±86 3, P 0 001) The three cytokines were correlated positively each other significantly( P 0 05, respectively) Furthermore, IL 12, IL 18 and IFN γ were correlated to systemic lupus erythematosus active parameters respectively( P 0 05) Conclusion IL 12, IL 18 and IFN γ may form a local area network and involve in the pathogenesis of LN activity
