Abstract

This article analyzes polite expressions in conversation both in Chinese and English from the point of pragmatics.These polite expressions mainly contain reply to commendation,request,polite expression on dinner table,invitation,regards,leave-taking,addressing and apology,including similarities and differences between those two cultures.Based on the studies of other precedent researchers,this article makes a briefly summary of the polite expressions in Chinese and English,it aims to help further understand why people are required to use different polite expressions in different situations,and provide help for English learners in their Trans-Culture study.
