Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expressions of 5- hydroxytryptamine( 5- HT) in hippocampus and hypothalamus, and the effect of eye acupuncture intervention in a rat model of depression. Methods: Male rats of Wistar were allocated to normal, model of depression and eye acupuncture groups. An animal model of depression was made by chronic stress stimulation. Eye acupuncture intervention was given. 5- HT levels in serum, hippocampus and hypothalamus were measured by ELISA in each group. The expressions of 5- HT was measured by method of immunohistochemisty. Results: Compared with the normal group,in the group of depression model,5- HT levels in hippocampus were decreased obviously( P 0. 01),and 5- HT levels in serum increased obviously( P 0. 01). Compared with the group of depression model,in the group of eye acupuncture,5- HT levels in hippocampus and hypothalamus were increased obviously( P 0. 01). 5- HT levels in serum were decreased obviously( P 0. 01). Conclusion: Eye acupuncture can regulate the expressions of 5- HT in hippocampus and hypothalamus in a rat model of depression.
