Social support for heroin addicts visting methadone maintenance treatment clinics

Objective To understand the conditions of social support for heroin addicts visting methadone maintenance treatment(MMT) clinics in Nanchang.Methods Demographic data were collected by using questionnaires;SSRS scale was used to evaluate social support for heroin addicts.To compare social support score of heroin addicts with the normal standard,student test was used.For comparing multi-group means,One-Way ANOVA was applied.Results Of the total 269 heroin addicts under study,76.2% were males and 23.8% were females.The social support score of heroin addicts was significantly lower than the normal standard.The extent of social support provided to heroin addicts was dependent on their status of marriage,education or occupation.Conclusion The social support score of the heroin addicts was lower than the normal standard.,and lower social support score is mainly associated with lower education,divorce and unemployment of the heroin addicts visiting methadone maintenance treatment clinics.These results indicate that intervention strategies should be developed to improve their social conditions.
