Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to describe the interdigestive gastroduodenal motility and detect plasma motilin to deter-mine whether motilin was responsible for the motility observed in healthy adult subjects. Methods The interdigestive gastroduodenal motility wasdetected by means of perfused gastrointestinal motility manometer in fifteen healthy subjects.Plasma motilin was detected according to the charactersof contractions in different phase by the radioimmunoassay method. Results All healthy subjects presented a cyclic pattern of fasting motor activitywith a mean duration of 106±32 min(migrating motor complex,MMC).Phase I of MMC lasted 38.9±22.4 min.PhaseⅡ lasted 62.3±20.1min.Antral phaseⅢ lasted 2.8±1.2 min, duodenal phaseⅢ lasted 4.5±1.8 min.Plasma motilin concentrations were different among the threephases of MMC(P0.05).Plasma motilin concentrations in phaseⅢ were not significantly different from phaseⅡ(P0.05),but both phaseⅡ and phaseⅢ were significantly higher than phaseⅠ(P0.05).Conclusion Plasma motilin concentration fluctuates in phase with theMMC.Motilin may be involved in the mechanism of MMC.
