Abstract
Four new ternary complexes of rare earths with 2-hydroxy-6-methylnicotinic acid(HA) and 1,10-Phenanthroline(Phen) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and FTIR spectra. The composition of the complexes was confirmed to be LnA3phen·3H2O(Ln=La,Eu,Gd,Tb),and the results showed carboxyl of the ligand chelated with rare earth ions in chelating bidentate mode. The fluorescence properties of Eu3+ and Tb3+ complexes were specially studied, both complexes had good fluorescence properties but Eu3+ and Tb3+ were not at the inversion center. The measured fluorescence lifetime of EuA3·3H2 and TbA3·3H2O was 0.84 ms and 0.58 ms.
