Abstract

The total anthraquinones(TA) were extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum, and the strong acid part(SAP),middle acid part(MAP) and weak acid part(WAP) were separated sequencely from the total anthraquinones. Then their antioxidant activities were measured with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) method. When the mass concentrations were 0.2 g/L,0.5 g/L,0.8 g/L and 1.2 g/L,the highest free radical scavenging rates of TA were 29.5%,67.1%,85.7%and 87.5%,of SAP were 34.0%,74.2%,86.5% and 95.4%,of MAP were 9.8%,24.0%,35.2% and 47.3%,and of WAP were 6.5%,11.1%,19.6% and 19.9% respectively.Hence,TA,SAP,MAP and WAP showed different free radical scavenging activity.SAP was the best, and the highest free radical scavenging rate was 95.4% when mass concentration of SAP was 1.2 g/L.
