Abstract

In order to improve traffic safety at highway intersections, access management techniques were introduced.According to the concept of function area, the areas of upstream and downstream of functional area at different intersections were identified. To solve the common existing safety problems in highway intersections,6 kinds of intersection access management techniques were studied. The technique principles and design schemes were presented, and the values of application of relevant technologies were recommended.Based on traffic conflict points,an evaluation approach of traffic safety improvement was developed, and was used to quantitatively evaluate the 6 kinds of intersection access management techniques. The evaluation results show that these access management techniques have a positive improvement effect on traffic safety at highway intersections.
